Donna Burtis, B.A., M.S.W., R.S.W.
Therapist / Counsellor
Specializing: children dealing with trauma, depression, anxiety, ADD/ADHD, and adults dealing with partner abuse and/or childhood sexual abuse
Donna graduated with a Masters of Social Work degree, specializing in clinical counselling, from the University of Toronto, in 1970. She is a member of the Association of Social Workers (OASW) and she is a Registered Social Worker with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers. (OCSWSSW)
Her past experience has been with children, adolescents and adults in a variety of settings – Children’s Aid Societies, Family Service Agencies, a Hospital and a Community Health Centre. Her roles have been in clinical counselling with individuals, couples and families, as well as, in facilitating therapy and psychoeducational groups. More recently, she has focused her continuing education on training in Narrative and Cognitive Behavioural Therapies and in children’s mental health issues.
Donna is focusing on children’s issues: attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, depression, anxiety, grief, separation and divorce in the family, bullying and abuse issues. She works with children and their parents, working toward behaviour change and tools for use at home.
Donna believes in a strength-based perspective in therapy. Every person has innate strengths and abilities. Discovering those strengths and abilities and building upon them is a key part of working toward solutions in therapy.
